A Timmins restauranteur who promised monthly cheques to the local food bank is making good on his promise, with a slight caveat that the cheques are being delivered every other month, so as to deliver a lump sum amount.

On Thursday, Khan presented Timmins Food Bank President Rick Young with a second $500 bimonthly cheque, for a total of $1,000 to the nonprofit from .25c of every sale at Albaik Fried Chicken on Riverside Drive.

Demand keep rising for the food bank’s services, which include a weekly Wednesday grocery distribution program, a “snack pack” program for the unhoused, and a Saturday take-out lunch program.

In July, when Albaik Fried Chicken owner Owais Khan announced his pledge , the food bank had served people 572 times in April, and 643 times in May.
