Blount County commissioners unanimously voted against a proposed medical waste facility in the Remlap area, citing environmental concerns and public opposition.

Harvest Med Waste Disposal submitted the application for the facility, which was planned to be located in a floodplain next to a creek that drains into the Black Warrior River.

Blount County Commission chairman Bradley Harvey highlighted the uncertainties surrounding the project.

Concerns were also raised about the waste traveling through the county to reach the facility.

Harvey noted that residents were strongly opposed to the proposal.
