There continues to be no love lost between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers, even in the pre-season.
During Thursday’s exhibition contest, the two sides racked up over 100 penalty minutes through the first two periods. But perhaps no penalty was more costly than the 10-minute misconduct Panthers forward A.J. Greer received for his cross-check on Brandon Hagel — forcing the Lightning star to leave the game.
The play came midway through the first period, as Greer cross-checked Hagel, then appeared to high-stick the Canadian winger and punched him in the head.
Tampa Bay announced that Hagel would not return to the game, stating that he sustained an undisclosed injury.
Before exiting, Hagel had logged less than five minutes of ice time and recorded one shot on goal.
