Here are some observations from the Tigers’ 6-3 win over the Guardians in Game 3 of the American League wild-card series at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Thursday:

No Tigers position player was more valuable during the 2025 season than catcher Dillon Dingler, who led the hitters with a 3.1 WAR. He was arguably the most valuable player in the Game 3 clincher Thursday, too, putting the Tigers ahead for good with a towering solo home run in the sixth inning off lefty Joey Cantillo ― a pitcher whom Guardians manager Stephen Vogt might’ve been trying to squeeze one out too many out of, given the heavy bullpen usage in the first two games. It was Dingler’s first hit of the series, and the biggest of his career.
