The Detroit Tigers are breathing easy — at least for the time being — as they have advanced out of the Wild Card round of the American League playoffs and are moving on to the Division Series. The Tigers defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6-3 in the decisive game of the three-game series, and will face the American League West champion Seattle Mariners.

The Tigers were one of the best teams in baseball through the majority of the regular season. However, they went through a horrific slump in September. At one point in the season, they had a 15 1/2-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central Division.
