Plastic use banned in & around Kokernag garden

Srinagar: Authorities have imposed a complete ban on the entry, sale and storage of single-use plastic items within and around the premises of the Botanical Garden Kokernag. According to an order issued by SDM Kokernag, the step was taken after repeated complaints of plastic pollution in the garden that not only threatened the environment but also contaminated the Kokernag spring, an important source of drinking water and supply to the Trout Fish Farm. The order stated that despite regular cleanliness drives, plastic dumping continued to choke the water supply, posing a risk to aquatic life and public health.
