COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The number of induced abortions dropped slightly in Ohio last year, according to new data from the Ohio Department of Health.

Meanwhile, the share of the procedures going to women who were out-of-state residents climbed.

A total of 21,829 abortions were reported in the state in 2024, which is a decrease of 171 compared to 2023.

Most of those procedures, 85.5%, were obtained by Ohio residents. But in 2024, the instances of out-of-state residents increased nearly 2%. In 2023, 12.6% of the total 22,000 abortions came from out-of-state residents. Last year, that percentage jumped to 14.4%.
