LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Three big local companies are asking for over $100 million in tax exemptions.

Those tax breaks come through the state’s Industrial Tax Exemption Program (ITEP).

“We’re burdening the community with taxes, it’s immoral in my opinion and I am against this,” said a concerned resident.

At a local ITEP meeting, three board members from the Calcasieu Police Jury, school board and the sheriff’s office voted to recommend tax exemptions for Lotte Chemical, LACC and Phillips 66.

All three company requests were accepted and recommended for exemptions and now moves to the next approval level.

“It then moves for review by the Board of Commerce, an industry who then reviews it and sends it to the governor all for approval, so the governor ultimately has approval,” said Alb
