RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was back in South Dakota Thursday, hosting a naturalization ceremony at Mount Rushmore.

There were 72 people from 34 countries taking the final step to become U.S. citizens; right underneath the Mount Rushmore memorial.

These people were greeted by U.S. Congressman Dusty Johnson, South Dakota Gov. Larry Rhoden and Noem.

“I think I put myself in their shoes. The taking the oath of a United States citizen for the first time and in front of such a crowd of witnesses like this ... pretty, pretty incredible,” Rhoden said.

“Talk about diversity. Some of these people are tall, some are short, some come from Africa, some come from Europe,” Johnson said. “There is one thing binding them all together. They love Ameri
