Two people were transported to Chicago area hospitals after they were trapped in a two-vehicle wreck Friday afternoon in Portage Township, officials said.

Deputies with the Porter County Sheriff’s Department were called around 12:28 p.m. Oct. 3 to the area of 660 N. Ind. 149, according to a release from Sgt. Ben McFalls, public information officer for that department.

An initial investigation shows a 2015 Jeep SUV was southbound on Ind. 149 and for an unknown reason, the driver went left of center, striking a northbound 2010 Chevrolet pickup truck with a flat trailer, according to McFalls.

The Jeep’s front bumper on the driver’s side struck the front bumper on the driver’s side of the truck, causing heavy damage to both vehicles, according to McFalls.
