A bicyclist was gravely injured Friday when his two-wheeler collided with a trolley.

The 54-year-old man was riding westbound on C Street near San Diego City Hall at about 9:30 a.m. Friday, when he crossed into the path of the trolley and was struck, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Paramedics took the man to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest for treatment of life-threatening head injuries. He was not expected to survive, SDPD Officer David O'Brien said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
