Maiden leads the Red Tornadoes 21-7 at the half in Hickory. Here are five reasons the Blue Devils are ahead.

Total yards

Maiden has piled up 265 yards so far and limited the Red Tornadoes ro 102. Before Hickory's late second quarter scoring drive, the Red Tornadoes had just 36 yards on 11 plays.

Controlling the clock

Its hard to score if your offense isn't on the field. Maiden ran 35 plays to 25 by the Red Tornadoes. Again, the disparity was even greater before that late scoring drive. Maiden had a 33-11 edge in plays run at that point.

Air support

Grant Lawing completed 12-of-19 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. Hickory QB Maddox McRee went 6-for-12 for 28 yards and a pick.
