A petition is calling on the City of Melville to save trees on John Connell Reserve in Leeming earmarked for removal to create more playing space.
In July the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation granted conditional approval to clear 0.68 hectares east of existing playing fields at John Connell Reserve for a potential expansion of playing space.
That approval is subject to the rehabilitation of 7.34ha of banksia woodland at Ken Hurst Park.
Earlier this year the City of Melville approved allocating $100,000 to have a report prepared on the costs of remediating Ken Hurst Park.
