JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Students at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) protested on Friday against what they describe as the forced retirement of two tenured professors following comments made about the recent death of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.

Just weeks ago, two ETSU professors, Andrew Hermann and Russell Brown, were placed on administrative leave after making comments on social media that the university said went against its no-violence policy. Shortly after ETSU's announcement, both tenured professors announced their retirements, beginning with Hermann's.
