A man has been charged after he allegedly rammed a police car and threatened officers with a knife in Queensland 's Sunshine Coast region.

Two police officers had returned to the Maroochydore Police Station carpark in an unmarked police vehicle at 8.50pm last night.

Police will allege a white Mercedes sedan drove at the police car at speed and rammed into the rear of it.

It will also be alleged the driver of the Mercedes threatened police with a knife and lunged at them.

A number of shots were fired at the man before a third officer used a Taser.
