INDIANAPOLIS — Every minute in the United States, nearly 20 people are physically abused by their partner, according to Beacon of Hope Indy .

Inside Cafe Oztara on East Washington Street , they're letting the art speak for itself.

"That's why her arm is lifted, saying, 'Hey, I found my way out of this, and I'm doing, you know, I'm doing good, I'm living and I'm happy, and I'm blessed to still be here,'" artist Katrina Patterson said.

Patterson grew up in a home filled with domestic violence.

"It still impacts me to this day. I have, like, dreams about it. I still cry about it a lot," Patterson said.

Years later, she found the strength to survive and thrive and has turned to art to help her express herself and started a painting business called XHALE Expressions. Her work is on display
