More than $9 million in state dollars will soon go to nonprofits working to rebuild Western North Carolina in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Helene.

Funding will go to 14 Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters repairing and rebuilding homes, according to an Oct. 2 news release from Gov. Josh Stein’s office.

“More than a year has passed since Hurricane Helene, and we are fortunate that so many volunteer organizations have stepped up to help their neighbors in need. Their tireless work is critical to our ongoing efforts to get western North Carolinians back in their homes,” Stein said in the release.
