Hubballi: In a remarkable medical occurrence, doctors at the Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMC RI) have delivered a baby diagnosed with the extremely rare “foetus-in-foetus” (FIF) condition. The delivery took place on September 23, and both the mother and newborn are in good health.
KMC RI Medical Superintendent Dr. Ishwar Hasabi said that MRI scans revealed an underdeveloped foetus with a spinal vertebra inside the newborn. “The mother, a resident of Kundagol taluk, underwent regular check-ups and had a normal, full-term delivery. Both mother and child are stable. The baby’s father happens to be one of fraternal twins, and this was the couple’s second child,” he explained.
