India named Shubman Gill as the new ODI captain for a three-match series, starting October 19 in Australia. Former captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were also named in the squad, announced by chief selector Ajit Agarkar after a meeting in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 4.

In a big call, India handed over the captain's armband to Shubman Gill. Shreyas Iyer was named the vice-captain of the ODI team – a role that Gill played before his elevation.

"Yes, he (Rohit) was communicated about the decision," Ajit Agarkar said while addressing a press conference on Saturday.
