SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — Clear skies and warm weather greeted visitors to the Mum Festival at Seamon Park in the village on Sunday afternoon.
The festival was first established in 1965 by the Rotary Club to bring more of the community to the park, which was deeded to the village in 1909 by John Seamon. Now in its 60th year, the festival remains a popular community event and serves as a homecoming for Saugerties High School.
Since 1971, the festival has crowned a “Mum Queen,” a Saugerties High School senior voted to the position along with two members of the “Mum Court.” This year’s queen, Livia Fyffe, was handing out flowers to festivalgoers with court members Ella O’Donnell and Lesly Lopez.
After the queen is crowned, the school typically hosts a “Mum Bowl” football game and a homecoming dan
