RATHDRUM, Idaho — Construction begins Monday on Main Street in downtown Rathdrum as the city launches a $500,000 state-funded revitalization project to update its commercial district.

The comprehensive improvement project will replace deteriorating sidewalks and curbs, refurbish and add streetlights and increase parking on a city-owned lot in the downtown area. The work will unfold in three phases, with the first phase starting on the south side of Main Street between McCartney and Mill Street.

Crews will begin by tearing up old sidewalks that have been buckling and are in serious need of repair. The aging streetlights, while still functional, will also receive attention as part of the downtown makeover.
