An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire with police after Pennsylvania State Police troopers said he opened fire on them with a shotgun from the roof of a home.

State Police said early Monday morning that troopers were called to the area of Dixonville Road in Grant Township around 5 p.m. on Sunday to investigate a reported assault.

The suspect from the reported assault, who has yet to be identified, was said to have been firing shots in the area before starting a fire inside his nearby home.

State Police said the man then climbed onto the roof of the home and fired a shotgun at responding Troopers on the ground below.

Troopers then returned fire, shooting and killing the man, according to State Police.
