Brigham Young University received a favorable ranking in The Associated Press college football poll on Sunday.

Last weekend, the Cougars were ranked #23. After beating West Virginia 38-24 on Saturday , the AP voters moved them up five spots to #18.

Meanwhile, the University of Utah is still on the outside looking in. The Utes were ranked earlier in the season but dropped out of the top 25 two weeks ago after losing to Texas Tech. They still received some votes, however, but shy at 29th-most "points."

Poll results are below, with first-place votes in parentheses, records through Oct. 4, total points based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote, and previous ranking: Record Points Previous rank 1. Ohio St. (40) 5-0 1620 1 2. Miami (FL) (21) 5-0 1
