New Delhi: Global healthcare company Abbott on Monday announced the launch of AVEIR DR, which as per the company is world’s first dual chamber leadless pacemaker system, in India. The next-generation cardiac device offers a major advance in heart rhythm management by enabling wireless, beat-to-beat communication between two leadless pacemakers that are each smaller than an AAA battery.

Pacemakers are used to correct slow heart rhythms, or bradycardia, by sending electrical impulses to stimulate the heart to beat at a normal rate. Traditional pacemakers rely on wires, or leads, that connect the device to the heart, requiring surgical pockets under the skin. Leadless pacemakers, by contrast, are implanted directly into the heart via a catheter, eliminating leads and reducing the risk
