NILES, Ohio - NILES The Niles Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash on Friday night that left a woman in critical condition.

Police responded to the area of Fifth Street and Indiana Avenue around 8:43 p.m. on Oct. 4 after the department's Dispatch Center received a 911 call about an unresponsive female in a yard.

Upon arrival, officers determined that a vehicle had initially driven off the roadway, struck a shed and a parked car. Investigators believe the injured woman, a neighbor, heard the initial crash and went outside to investigate. At that time, the vehicle’s driver was leaving the scene and struck the woman in the yard.

The injured female remains in critical condition.
