Stagecrafters is taking on another ambitious production with “Amy and the Orphans,” running from Oct. 10-19 on the second stage at the Baldwin Theatre in Royal Oak.

“Amy and the Orphans” tells the story of three adult siblings reuniting after their dad’s funeral. “As they set out on a road trip together, long-buried tensions surface and family secrets unravel, with unexpected humor and tenderness at every turn,” the show’s description states.

Emily Lourim is directing the production. She said she was drawn to the story for a few reasons, and one is because of the family aspect of it.

“I believe that every family is unique and is full of love, but also full of challenges,” Lourim says. “It’s so important to notice and reflect that families aren’t perfect and I think everyone can benefit
