Baba's Original New York System has announced its last business day will be Oct. 31 at 424 Smith St., Providence. Diners are invited in to share meals and goodbyes until then.

The restaurant opened in 1927 when Gust Pappas founded New York System from a cart and then expanded into a brick-and-mortar space. He was succeeded by son Ernie. Grandson Gus ran the restaurant until he retired in 2016. Taner "Baba" Toprak renamed the business Baba's Original New York System with his purchase of the business that year.
