It took decades for Romeo and Belle Medrino to become masters of their ‘dough-main’.

Romeo started out as an entry-level position at a pizzeria in the Philippines.

“Ever since I was in college I was working in fast food,” Romeo said. “In the beginning they had me making the dough; making the pizza. I moved up from team member to team leader, to shift supervisor, then assistant manager before eventually becoming the manager in 1994.”

To earn his promotions back then – before dial-up internet was a thing – Romeo remembers having to go through giant stacks of binders to complete workbooks, study for exams, and be prepared for interviews.

But despite the success of his career, it didn’t feel like hard work was getting him very far ahead, so they decided to seek out opportunities abroad.
