Former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper is running for current GOP Sen. Thom Tillis’s Senate seat in 2026. Tillis announced in June he would not seek re-election after nearly 11 years in office. In late July, Cooper said he was entering the race, giving a big boost to the Democratic Party's attempt to take control of the Senate in 2026.
