If news of an extension for superstar Connor McDavid wasn’t enough, the Edmonton Oilers locked up yet another piece for the coming years.
The Oilers are reportedly closing in on a seven-year, $49 million extension — worth $7 million in average annual value — for defenceman Jake Walman, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Monday.
Walman joined the Oilers at the trade deadline last season from the San Jose Sharks. In 15 regular-season games, he notched one goal and seven assists. He added two goals and eight assists in 22 post-season games.
The 29-year-old has missed the majority of the pre-season after suffering an undisclosed injury. He only suited up for one exhibition game against the Flames on Sept. 21 and played 21:59 in the 3-2 loss.
