Detroit — Highlighting a "change in culture" among police officers and Detroit residents, Mayor Mike Duggan Monday touted third-quarter crime statistics that showed drops in violent crime from the same period last year, including nearly a third fewer carjackings.

During a press conference at Detroit Public Safety Headquarters, flanked by representatives of multiple politicians and local and federal law enforcement agencies, Duggan said there were 90 carjackings from Jan. 1-Sept. 30, 2024, which dropped to 64 during the same period in 2025, a drop of 29%.
