From the Oct. 30, 1985 News Record:
A $2,500 Chinese Shar-Pei dog that was lost Saturday afternoon was returned to its owners Monday. The owner, Dorothy Leegaard in Fox Park, reported to police the dog had been stolen out of her car in the Alco parking lot. The 10-month-old “Red” had been in the car at 1:25 p.m. but was gone 20 minutes later, Leegaard said. The dog was returned Monday afternoon by a family who found her wandering around the Alco discount store. Although Leegaard and others searched the store and the area, the dog wasn’t seen in the store until several hours later. Since Alco officials wanted the dog out of the store, the family that found the dog took it home, Leegaard said. On Monday, a neighbor told the family about the missing Shar-Pei and the Leegaards were contacted.
