GLASGOW, Ky. (WBKO) — A piece of Barren County history is making its way to Bowling Green.

In 1917, Ervin G. Houchens opened a grocery store in a small shed just south of Glasgow in the community of Lucas. Over the years, the store and surrounding structures became part of Houchens Park, where annual picnics often drew hundreds of residents.

For decades, signage at the intersection of Browning School Road and Highway 31-E guided drivers to the site of the first store, the Winn Schoolhouse, and a nearby farm machinery museum, preserving a glimpse of the area’s past.

Today, the sign is gone, and the nearby buildings are being moved to Bowling Green, where Houchens Industries is headquartered. The property sustained storm damage in 2024, which demolished one of its three buildings and left
