WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced that an arrest was made after a woman was shot over the summer.

On Oct. 6, police said 21-year-old Gerniya Duncan of Southwest, DC, was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (gun).

The charges stemmed from a shooting that broke out in the 2400 block of Elvans Road Southeast around 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 2.

Once on the scene, officers found a woman who had been shot. She was conscious and breathing when first responders arrived, and she was taken to the hospital for treatment.
