A Birmingham City Council member who had a highly publicized DUI in a city vehicle last year will battle to keep his seat on Tuesday, Oct. 7 , in a runoff election that will settle three city council seats.
District 4 incumbent J.T. Moore , who last year was arrested for driving under the influence in a city vehicle will face a runoff against political newcomer and Birmingham Planning Commission committee member Brian Gunn .
Another incumbent, Public Safety Chair LaTonya Tate, faces a runoff to keep her seat in District 9.
Tate is being challenged by political veteran John Hilliard , who served as the District 9 councilor from 2017 to 2021 and served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1993 to 2003.
