The attack on Chief Justice of India (CJI) B R Gavai inside the Supreme Court premises on Monday has triggered widespread condemnation across the political spectrum, with leaders from various parties calling it an “attack on the judiciary” and “constitution”

The incident, in which a lawyer allegedly attempted to throw a shoe at the CJI, has raised serious questions over security within the apex court and sparked a chorus of solidarity with the Chief Justice.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the incident was “an assault on the dignity of our judiciary and the spirit of our Constitution.”

“Such hatred has no place in our nation and must be condemned,” he said in a post on X.
