Title: Canada Confirms Release of Three Detained Citizens in Gaza
OTTAWA — The Canadian government announced that Israel will release three Canadians who were detained while trying to reach the Gaza Strip via the Mediterranean Sea. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand shared the news on the social media platform X, stating, "Canada is aware of three Canadians who were detained off the coast of Israel."
Anand confirmed that Global Affairs Canada has provided consular assistance and that "all three are in the process of being released."
Previously, the department had reported that it was aware of two detained citizens and had requested their release from Israeli authorities.
Israel has previously detained several boats carrying activists, including notable figures like Greta Thunberg, who have attempted to deliver aid to the Palestinian enclave.
In addition to the three Canadians being released, the group Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East indicated that another six Canadians are expected to arrive in the region by mid-week.
This development highlights ongoing tensions in the area as activists continue to seek ways to provide support to Gaza amid the complex political landscape.
