CHARLOTTE, N.C. — New tariffs are about to hit the furniture and construction industries, and local businesses say they’re bracing for impact.
Starting Tuesday, Oct. 14, the United States will impose steep new import taxes — a move the White House says will help protect American manufacturers. But, some warn it could lead to higher prices for consumers.
CLT Furniture Bros Co-Owner Yazan Alhassan says his company is preparing for the financial strain that could come with the changes.
“North Carolina used to be the hub, the largest furniture manufacturer in the world,” Alhassan said. “A lot of stuff has moved overseas. So for us, items that are imported the most — those are going to be hit the hardest by tariffs.”
