CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) - A man was shot and killed early Saturday morning at an apartment building in the 2100 block of Market Avenue North.

Police said they got a 911 call around 130 a.m. for a shooting.

When officers arrived on scene, they found 35-year-old Christopher J. Smith unconscious, on the floor in the living room. Officers said Smith had a gunshot wound to the hip.

He was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he died a short time later.

The suspect, 32-year-old Corey L. Parte, left the scene prior to the officer’s arrival, according to Canton Police.

Detectives continue to investigate.
