The B.C. government is introducing new legislation and an action plan aimed at strengthening how post-secondary institutions prevent and respond to sexual violence.
The proposed sexual-violence policy act would replace the current Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy Act, expanding its scope to include all members of the campus community including faculty, employees, contractors, volunteers and board members — not just students.
“Sexual violence is never acceptable,” said Jessie Sunner, minister of post-secondary education and future skills, in a statement.
“It’s critical that post-secondary institutions and community members be equipped with the tools, resources, and training needed to prevent and respond to sexual violence effectively and compassionately.”
