CHICAGO (WTVO) — A federal judge on Monday declined to immediately halt President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago, saying more time is needed to review the state’s legal challenge.

Judge April Perry, appointed by President Biden, scheduled a hearing for Thursday to consider Illinois’ request for a temporary restraining order. The decision came hours after Governor J.B. Pritzker and Attorney General Kwame Raoul filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, calling the deployment “illegal” and “unconstitutional.”

Despite the legal pushback, approximately 200 Texas National Guard troops are expected to arrive in Chicago by Tuesday. An additional 300 Illinois Guard members are slated to begin training the same day, unless the court intervenes.
