Final preparations for the Bay County Boys Tennis Championship required coach Mike Rohde to go a little deeper.

“They’ve heard all my tennis,” he said. “I’m not going to make them any better tennis players at this point. So I wanted to get past the tennis and find out what’s inside that is going to help them win.

“I told them to start thinking about tennis as a battle. You’re not always going to have your best strokes or feel your greatest but just find a way to win points. String a couple points together, win a game and create momentum. My message was ‘Be battlers out there.’”
