LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The man convicted in the stabbing death of a six-year-old boy 10 years ago is now out of prison. He has been released under a mandatory reentry program in state law for people classified as nonviolent offenders.
In the early morning hours of Dec. 7, 2015, Ronald Exantus stabbed Logan Tipton to death and attacked his family as they tried to stop him. In 2018, a jury sentenced him to 20 years in prison, but not for murder after finding him not guilty by reason of insanity.
The jury convicted him of second-degree assault.
“The case is upsetting to me, and if I were the victim, I would be appalled,” said Whitney Westerfield, an attorney and former state senator.
He explained that while he supports the mandatory reentry program, which lets nonviolent offenders out six mont
