A dazzling Harvest Supermoon will rise over the eastern horizon at sunset Monday, marking the first supermoon of 2025.

According to Space.com, the full moon phase peaks at 8:48 p.m. PDT on Oct. 6 (0348 GMT Oct. 7), when the moon will shine opposite the sun in Earth’s sky, appearing near the constellation Pisces with Saturn glowing to its upper right.

Known as the Harvest Moon for its timing near the autumn equinox, the lunar display historically helped farmers gather crops by moonlight. This year’s event coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth, making it appear slightly larger and brighter than usual.
