SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) – Monday marked the first day of a major change in how Manatee County collects household trash, recycling and yard waste.
Beginning Oct. 6, the county’s Public Works Department officially launched its new “Big Bin Advantage” program, bringing larger 96-gallon carts to residents and reducing trash collection to one day a week. Each neighborhood now has a single pickup day for all materials instead of twice-weekly service.
County leaders say the move is about safety and efficiency. The new bins allow automated trucks to lift and empty waste without workers riding on the back of the vehicles, a change they say will reduce injuries and traffic.
