AUSTIN, Texas — An Austinite who was aboard a Gaza-bound flotilla seized by the Israeli military is now out of Israel.
Greg Stoker was part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a group of more than 40 boats, which organizers said was trying to break an Israeli blockade and take humanitarian aid to war-torn Gaza.
The Israeli military stopped dozens of those vessels last week and detained many of the people on board, saying the blockade is legal.
Austin Congressman Lloyd Doggett posted on social media on Monday morning saying his office has been communicating with U.S. and Israeli officials about Stoker's detention. He said Stoker and other participants in the flotilla were flown out of Israel.
Israel said it has deported about 170 people who were on those boats.
