HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A proposal to rezone land in Hamblen County for a rock quarry is facing strong pushback from nearby residents.

MAC Materials is seeking approval to develop a quarry off McClister Road, near I-81. The company first proposed the project in 2023, but the request was unanimously denied by the Hamblen County Planning Commission.

Neighbors told 6 News the plan could bring more than just noise. They're concerned about safety, water contamination, and impact on property values in their rural community.
