MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. — Two passengers are okay after a small plane crashed into a cornfield on Sunday.

Around 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 5, a 911 caller told the Carroll County Sheriff's Office that a plane had crashed south of Mount Carroll near Apple Hill Road. The caller said the plane was on fire in a cornfield.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene. Two people in the plane were able to get out and were safe by the time first responders arrived. Firefighters put out the flames, which had destroyed the plane completely after the crash.

An investigation found that the plane came from outside the area and was trying to land at a private airstrip near Apple Hill Road. The pilot had a hard time landing due to strong winds, causing the plane to crash.

The two people in the plane were 52-year-old
