HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - In the opening pages of the new book “Shell Song,” Shigeki Fujimoto was enjoying a peaceful morning with his family.
But on Dec. 7, 1941, the peace was shattered when Japan launched a surprise attack and bombed Pearl Harbor.
It would change the lives of the Fujimoto ohana and everyone else in Hawaii.
“Right after Dec. 7, the government had a list of people to arrest all ready and ready to go,” said Christine Ogura, superintendent of Honouliuli National Park, “so hours after Dec. 7, martial law was enacted here in Hawaii which basically gave the military complete control of the territory.”
Without any rhyme or reason, Shigeki Fujimoto and hundreds of others were arrested and abruptly taken from their loved ones and confined to internment camps at Sand Island
