WASHINGTON STATE – Amid the ongoing federal government shutdown, nearly 80,000 federal employees in Washington are facing financial challenges. The state is urging insurance companies to offer a 30-day grace period for premium payments on auto, renters and homeowners insurance for affected federal employees.
Insurance Commissioner Patty Kuderer has called on insurers to give these policyholders additional time to pay without losing coverage.
"Consumers should not lose their coverage or face penalties solely because of a temporary interruption in federal pay," Kuderer said.
The request asks insurers to refrain from assessing late fees or penalties and to communicate clearly with affected policyholders about their options. Kuderer expressed appreciation for companies already providing fl
